Take a look at our new ELA curriculum, Wit and Wisdom, at work in 1st grade! They are working through Module one around the essential question: "How do books change lives around the world?"

Here's another example from 1st grade, Mrs. Skutt's class~
In first grade our essential question is “How do books change lives around the world?” With Green Eggs and Ham, we are working to answer the focus question, “How do books change my life?” We began this focus arc by reading and listening to Green Eggs and Ham. The students worked with a partner to notice what they saw. They then worked with their partner to wonder and create questions. The following day students worked in partners to act out either the problem or resolution to the story.

Mrs. Studebaker’s mathematicians practiced repeated addition with making arrays using Skittles! Some students even practiced making arrays to solve multiplication facts!
Mrs. Studebaker's students had fun wrapping up their week learning about the importance of the Earth’s moon and learning about the moon’s phases through quizzing one another with a craftivity that they got to take home! One of Mrs. Studebaker’s students even took out her telescope and got to share some photos with the class that she took of the Lunar Eclipse!

Tomorrow is a Schedule A Day! Check out the flyer for more information!

Mrs. Howard's class enjoying their popsicles outside. The school made it to their first goal of 535 Tiger Paws and earned a popsicle party! The goal is to reach 1200 Tiger Paws by the end of the first quarter. If they reach it, they get to duck tape Mrs. Sobkoviak to the wall in the gym during an assembly!

Mrs. Studebaker's students listened to “The Tiny Seed” by Eric Carle as they learned about how seeds can travel in so many ways! They used paint as a medium to make blow art to mimic the style of Eric Carle’s work.

Mrs Studebaker turned her students into Chia Pets! The students had a blast finishing up their science unit on plant parts and their functions with planting seeds and growing grass!

This week in Mrs Studebaker’s class, Mrs. Linnell had a fun Phonics review game for the students to play!

First Day of School Pictures!
We had a great first day! Part 1

First Day- Part 2

First Day- Part 3

Mrs. Studebaker’s scientists have been learning about plant parts and their functions!
The students have also been learning about the Scientific Method and today they were able to make a conclusion about their hypothesis! They learned that Stems are like straws! Stems act like a straw sucking up water and nutrients from the roots and soil and delivering them to the rest of the plant. Mrs. Studebaker placed flowers in water and added food coloring into the water. Her students then hypothesized what they thought the food coloring would do to the flower. The food coloring allowed her students to see the journey that the nutrients and water take through the work of the stem!
