Dear BESD #53 Families and Community, Out of an abundance of caution for our students and staff, we will be utilizing a Remote Learning Planning Day for tomorrow (2/16/21). We are in a winter storm warning that remains in effect until 9 am tomorrow that includes dangerous travel, heavy snow, and cold temperatures. This school year the State Board of Education has afforded us 5 Remote Learning Planning Days (these days do not have to be made up nor is there Remote Learning for Students on these days). Please be safe and stay warm. Sincerely, Dr. Adam Ehrman, Superintendent

A big thanks to the Kankakee Health Department for providing the vaccination clinic at Liberty Intermediate this afternoon. We were able to provide vaccinations to every district staff member that wanted one. The second shot will come in early March. This is a big step towards getting our students back in school full time.

Dear BESD #53 Families and Community, We are aware of pending weather forecasts for tonight and tomorrow morning which may require us to alter our normal plans. This school year the State Board of Education has afforded us 5 Remote Learning Planning Days (these days do not have to be made up in the summer). Should the weather make travel too much of a concern for tomorrow, we will communicate out to everyone that we will be utilizing a Remote Learning Planning Day for all schools (no Remote Learning for Students on these days). Sincerely, Dr. Adam Ehrman, Superintendent

Good Morning BESD 53 Families, We are having internet issues at all five schools. We are working on this but we do not have a clear time for when we will be up and running. If you have students working remotely, please have them working on web based applications such as Freckle. Independent reading is always a great option as well. We will update as soon as we have more information. Thanks!

This month we will mail 503 books to children in the school district under the age of 5! However, we assume there are about 1500 children in the district that are eligble for this. Please let your friends and neighbors know they can get an application at all 5 schools or just email Denise Curtis-Reiniche curtisreiniched@besd53.org to get an application. Thanks #BESD53

Hi, we have pasted a link to the recording of our presentation from Dr. Arshad at Riverside. The presentation focused on mental health challenges and strategies during the pandemic. We also had a short presentation from Dr. Baron from Project Sun for what they can offer during the pandemic and beyond. https://youtu.be/4tJXfQ5tHSU

Dear BESD #53 Families and Community,           As previously communicated, the administrative team has been closely monitoring Liberty Intermediate School and BUGC to make sure we can return, as scheduled, to in-person learning on December 7th.  As promised, we have been assessing our known data to help make an informed decision by today (December 3rd). Based upon currently known information, BUGC and Liberty will be returning to in-person learning on December 7th as scheduled. We have made this decision as our data indicates, at this time, we can properly and safely staff our schools.  We have maintained a foundational belief that we must do our absolute best to safely provide students with an opportunity for in-person learning.  We continue to focus on the safety of staff and students which is why we will continue to monitor our data. Due to the constant change in the data, everyone should be prepared for another adaptive pause (switch to remote) at any time.  While we can not predict the future, we can assure you that we will continue to rely upon guidance from the AAP, IDPH, CDC, peer-reviewed research data, and our stringent Covid-19 safety protocols to make our decisions.   We are aware that every time we must make a decision regarding in-person vs. remote there are strong reactions to those decisions. These decisions are not easy and always made for what is best for students and staff. Once again, we can not thank our Teachers, Nurses, Support Staff, Bus Drivers, Administrators, and Parents enough for rising to the occasion during a pandemic. Sincerely,  Dr. Adam Ehrman Superintendent, Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53
