As a reminder, registration for this coming school year will be down for maintenance July 11th -29th. Any registration not complete will need to be restarted after July 30th.


Don't forget our In-Person Registration Day is happening tomorrow from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Upper Grade Center.
Please join us if you have any issues with registration or if you are new to the district (this includes Kindergarten students).

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was instituted to provide nutritious meals to children during the summer months when school is not in session. The program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The meals will be served free of charge at Shabbona Elementary at 321 N. Convent. Please go to the doors nearest the playground. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 am to 9:00 am. Lunch will be served from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm. Have a safe Summer!

Don't Forget! Tomorrow is Early Childhood Day at the Kankakee Farmer's Market. Lots of fun activities for kids provided by early childhood agencies and programs from throughout Kankakee and Iroquois Counties. The event is from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. We will have our Family Support Bus on site and we will be providing developmental screenings for kids age B-3. The screenings will be provided by our family support agencies in the area. The Kankaee County Health Department will be providing child safety seat checks between 9:00 am and 11:00 am. The event is on Schuyler between Merchant and Station. Hope to see you there!


Thank you to all the schools for allowing the District Office to be a part of your field days. The District Office was SNO excited to serve over 2000 SNO Cones. It was nice to get out of the office and see the rainbow colored mouths and smiling faces. The color changing spoons were a big hit!!

2023 Retiree: Connie Goodwin has worked in the BESD53 district for 22 years. Connie has worked at LeVasseur and Liberty before ending her time in the district at BUGC. During her tenure in the district, she served as a teacher assistant to several teachers and students.
In her retirement, Connie hopes to travel and find something to be thankful for each day.


2023 Retiree: Lori Henry started her career in Bourbonnais in 1999 when she was hired to be a Science Teacher at Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center. She has spent the last 24 years teaching at Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center. During her time at BESD53, Lori has been involved in the BEA as the Co-President as well as building representative. She has mentored new teachers and been involved in the building leadership team over the last 24 years. Lori also helped in the transition to PLC teams at BUGC several years ago. She was the sponsor for the Chain Reaction group as well.
In her retirement, Lori plans to spend time with her grandchildren and family. She can’t wait to take a vacation off season. She also has plans to spend time in her garden.


2023 Retiree: Nancy Brownfield has been a Science teacher at Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center for the last 20 years. Prior to coming to BESD53 she spent 15 years at Donovan High School as a Science teacher. While at BESD53 Nancy has been a BEA representative for BUGC, Scholastic Bowl representative as well as helped out at numerous Athletic Events being the score keeper, timekeeper, and as well as other duties.
In her retirement, she plans to enjoy her new camper and hopes to travel the Pacific Northwest Coast. She will be busy in the fall when her son gets married.


2023 Retiree:
Jeannie Guebert has been with BESD53 as an employee since 2006. She has worked at Alan Shepard and LeVasseur, but started and spent most of her career at Robert Frost School, welcoming our newest Pre-K and Kindergarten parents and students. In her Frost days, she adopted Pre-K as hers and has continued to be wonderful in welcoming our new families to the district. She enjoys watching the students grow and all their accomplishments through the years. Many years prior to being an employee she was an active parent in BESD53 as her two children attended, she was also the PTA president. Jeannie has always been a great asset to our district and will be missed by staff, students and parents.
In retirement, she will be able to spend more time enjoying her family, and hobbies like sewing, decorating, traveling and gardening.

We have a letter going out next week to all families involved but we thought we would share on FB and the live feed today as we know families are busy making plans for the Summer. Saturday June 10th is Early Childhood Day at the Kankakee Farmer's Market. Please come and learn about all the great things happening in Early Childhood Education across the county. There will be free Car Seat Safety checks provided by the Kankakee County Health Department between 9:00 am and 11:30 am.
